Introduction & Summary

Welcome to Fictionkind. Despite the name, everyone with a fictional source belongs here. Fictives, soulbonds, 'flickers - you name it, you belong. Any kind of fictionfolk is welcome here. This place tries ti encompass all beings who experience an unusual relationship with fiction, whether that's a past life affecting you now, becoming attached to a fictional hearthome, a headmate who travels between here and elsewhere - and everything in between!

This community is meant to serve as a gathering place for more serious discussion between all of us. Fun is allowed, but try to stay on topic regarding your fictional connections and the fictional communities as a whole. Don't take yourselves so seriously that you can't enjoy your time here, but don't turn it into an extension of Tumblr or your personal Discord. An important note is that this is a community by and primarily for adults. While minors are certainly welcome, you are expected to curate your own content and be respectful--we will not bend over backwards to ensure that you could not possibly access something that you shouldn't be seeing. Everything will be tagged, flagged, and warned for appropriately beforehand. Heed those warnings.

Every now and then, a prompt will go up. You're free to make your own entry with your response to that prompt. Write an essay, write a paragraph, whatever. This isn't for microblogging, we want to hear you! Regardless of when a prompt is posted, you can respond to it, even if it's a year later. Aside from that, all users are encouraged to post their own original content. Get philosophical, get weird, make yourself uncomfortable, and maybe help someone who didn't know they needed it. Share your art and commissions. Post pieces of your source media that you need to talk about. This is the place to share, and overshare. A combination of microblogging and shame have stifled us all over the years and this is our attempt to help undo that. Talk to each other, mingle! If you're posting here, expect and encourage interaction. Engage with each other, don't just wait for your turn to talk.

At this current point in time, this place is run by Goratrix, cohost of the Draconic Wizard Workshop system (tanadin here on Dreamwidth). If you have a problem with the site, the rules, or someone else, shoot me (Goratrix) a PM or email and I will do my best to help you.

Rules
  • If you have any kind of fictional source or similar identity-impacting relationship to fiction? Congratulations, you belong. (Here, we call this connection to something fictional a "fictomere," but you aren't required to use this word at all. See "What is a Fictomere?" on the sidebar for more information on that.
  • To join, you must do one of two things: either 1) send me a pm talking a bit about your fiction-based identity and why you wish to join this Dreamwidth, or 2) link to a social media account or website focused on your alterhumanity/fiction-based identity. Don't link me to your non-fiction-identity-based Tumblr blog. Don't send in a join request without fulfilling either of these steps--doing so will ensure that your request is ignored. Either PM me here on Dreamwidth or email me at calcifiedluminary@gmail.com. I'm not looking for an autobiography, just a brief description of your identity, what it means to you, and why you want to join. If there is an existing member of the community willing to vouch for you, that is acceptable as well. The reason we do this is to keep trolls and kin-for-fun individuals out.
  • And on the topic of kin-for-fun, "kinning" language is discouraged here. This is a space for actual fictionfolk to congregate. Occasional joking usage of the word is not a crime, but consistent labeling of yourself as a kinnie, calling others kinnies, and referring to your fictional identity as kinning may get you removed from the community. This may seem harsh, but there are other spaces you can occupy that will cater to you, while the pool of resources for actual fictionfolk is dwindling. You're free to contact an admin to dispute a rejection, but "Language evolves, don't be gatekeepers" will not get you anywhere.
  • Make an attempt to stay on topic, but don't feel like you can't have fun. (One of the administrators is a 1100-year-old vampire. That's inherently hilarious.)
  • Do not share other members' content without their permission. This include comments. There's a reason we don't let just anyone in here without a bit of vetting--it's to avoid letting trolls see your content. Crossposting your own writings is fine.
  • We have no tolerance for purity culture, identity policing, or respectability politics. If you don't like someone or their content, don't interact with them. Judgement or harassment is grounds for administrative action. Yes, this includes against "those" people--villains, people who write "nasty" fanfiction, whatever.
  • No harassment for any reason--sources, sexuality, gender, identity (fiction-based or not), ANYTHING. Once again, if you can't deal with something, you need to set your own boundaries and avoid it.
  • Fascism, racism, transphobia (covering transmisogyny, transandrophobia, and mockery of xenogenders and neopronouns), ableism, transmedicalism, homophobia, aphobia, and sysmedicalism are grounds for being declined should you try to join.
  • Debates are fine, but don't get nasty or we'll step in. Threaten anyone and you're out. Drop subjects if asked; we're here to discuss and build a community, not to be at each other's throats.
  • Cuts are required for posts with images or long posts beyond the second paragraph. This is to avoid visual clutter. If your post is only a few paragraphs, you don't need a cut.
  • Give content warnings when required. Use common sense here, and put anything potentially triggering under a cut with a warning above. If someone asks you to add a warning for something, please do so.
  • M rated fanfic is fine (under a cut), as long as it and any potentially triggering content is warned for. However, do not ACTUALLY ENCOURAGE practices such as zoophilia, sexual assault, or child molestation. The topics may be discussed when needed, but only when warned for and are NEVER to be encouraged. If you feel like someone is endangering themselves or others, reach out to an active admin PRIVATELY. Callouts will result in a ban. We will investigate and take action when appropriate.
  • System members can make posts on their own and do not have to share.
  • Doubles are fine, and we won't accept harassment of doubles. However, if you don't want doubles to interact with you, just let us know or clarify in a post, and we'll indicate it on the source masterlist.
  • You can have political discussions, if you can find a way to make it on-topic. Pokemon for president? Dragon as a governor? Should a monarchy be passed on to the Na'vi? We'd love to hear it.

Once you've been approved, you can use this form to introduce yourself, or you can freestyle it. Whatever works for you, just let folks know that you're here! If you want people to be able to find you by source/fictomere, or want to find others who may share your source, check out the source masterlist. (Link only works once you've been approved.)

Introduction & Summary

Welcome to Fictionkind. Despite the name, everyone with a fictional source belongs here. Fictives, soulbonds, 'flickers - you name it, we want you. Alterfiction isn't an official term anywhere you look, but I use it to try and encompass all beings who experience an unusual relationship with fiction, whether that's a past life affecting you now, becoming attached to a fictional hearthome, a headmate who travels between here and elsewhere - and everything in between!

Every day, I'll be posting a prompt. You're free to make your own entry with your response to that prompt. Write an essay, write a paragraph, whatever. This isn't for microblogging, we want to hear you! Regardless of when a prompt is posted, you can respond to it, even if it's a year later and you're a newbie. Rules

  • -If you have any kind of fictional source or similar identity-impacting relationship to fiction? Congratulations, you belong.
  • In order to gain access, you MUST have some form of social media linked on your profile in order for us to vet you. We need to know that you're not a troll or a kin-for-fun type of person. We need to be able to get a sense of your personality, as well as your behavior among other alterhumans, so the accounts you provide cannot be empty/sock-puppet accounts. If you do not have any acceptable social media accounts to link (or another member to vouch for you), then you MUST send a private message to either one of the administrators telling us where you found the community and a little bit about yourself. Failing to follow this step will ensure that your request is ignored.
  • And on the topic of kin-for-fun, "kinning" language is discouraged here. This is a space for actual fictionfolk to congregate. Occasional joking usage of the word is not a crime, but consistent labeling of yourself as a kinnie, calling others kinnies, and referring to your fictional identity as kinning will get you removed from the community. "Copingkin" are discouraged from joining and will likely be rejected per admin review (there are exceptions to this rule based on your conduct).
